Gloryette Heading to Newcastle
It is a damp morning here at HQ. We have now completed the initial education of the yearlings. They have learnt to go up the grass canters and the artificial surfaces and we have walked them through the stalls daily. As Christmas approaches we will give them a break and allow them to develop before we gently press on with them again later in January.
Our two runners on Sunday both ran with credit. Zamjar travelled very well in his first time blinkers and more than likely bumped into a progressive type in Munro. He has come out of the race well and there is a 6f Nursery up at Newcastle at the end of the month in which he would be able to run off of the same mark if he continues to please me before then. Dutch Uncle had to drop in from the widest draw and given the tempo of the race he did well to stay on and finish third. I hope we can win a race with him soon as he remains in good form and is shaping as if he is on a winnable mark.
We have one runner today at Newcastle in the 1m Maiden at 3pm. It is a weak race and we have taken the decision to move her back drastically in trip from 2m. She has always travelled well in her races at various trips but has not been finishing her races and we felt given the lack of depth in the race, it was worth trying her at this trip. She has run well over ten furlongs and her work rider at home felt it was worth giving a mile a go. There is nothing to lose and we go there in hope rather than expectation. The favourite Singapore Sling has run to a mark in the low 70s twice and is a deserved favourite despite a poor effort over jumps where he was pulled up. Roller showed plenty on his debut and if he returned to that form he would be interesting whilst the two newcomers would not have to be anything special to take a hand in the finish.
