Global Express

Good morning from Newmarket. After a quiet few days we venture to Salisbury for the mile and a quarter 0-75 three-year-old handicap at 4.20 with Global Express.

A son of New Approach, he actually made his debut at this track over a mile in October of last year. On that occasion he was a promising third, although the form has taken plenty of knocks in the months since. He returned to action this year with a poor performance at Ripon, but has run to a much higher standard in subsequent starts at Pontefract and Haydock – either side of a gelding operation.

Haydock last time out was particularly encouraging, as he stayed on resolutely and appeared to be doing all his best work at the finish. We have struggled to get an accurate read on his trip, as he is out of a sprinting mare but has always trained like one that wants to go further. A mile and a half seemed to stretch him on his disappointing seasonal return at Ripon, so we have settled on a mile and a quarter since then. It could be that it is still not his optimum, but we will surely learn plenty more about that side of things this afternoon.

Hopefully, as a 0-75 confined to maidens, we are in at the right sort of level, and Salisbury is clearly a track that suits him well. I keep my fingers crossed for a good run, Gerald Mosse will be doing the steering.

Best wishes,
Ed.
