Sagaciously
The weather continues to be miserable and one might be mistaken that we are in early February rather than in early June with less than two weeks until the start of Royal Ascot. The horses remain very well and we were delighted to have 16 winners in the month of May. I was happy with the horses today but I would love to see some warmer weather as that will help bring them on.
We had three runners yesterday rather than the planned four after Leicester was abandoned after two races. Apex King made a pleasing start to his career, he was drawn in stall one and after being slowly away he had to race on his own, it should turn out to be a very good race and I was happy with him. Zamjar was unlucky at Wolverhampton, he improved from his debut as we hoped he would and just got beaten on the line by a well backed horse who also improved on his second start. They were well clear of the third. Kafoo won the concluding race at Lingfield and was very gutsy as he battled well to hold on by a short head. He has done a very good job leading the two year olds and I am delighted he has broken his maiden tag.
It was a great shame that Leicester was abandoned after two races, following on from Windsor’s abandonment recently. We were due to run a two year-old later on and it was frustrating as many of the owners were there. It is hard to blame anyone however as rain on quick ground is always going to lead to issues. Especially when the horses are pulling up on a bend shortly after the line.
I am heading to Nottingham today where we have two runners. Dora’s Field makes her handicap debut in what looks a very hot race and I am just hoping she can be competitive. Sagaciously runs in the Nottinghamshire Oaks and heads into the race in terrific form having won last time. Some of the horses in the race have disappointed lately and it would be brilliant if we could get some Black Type with her.
