Global Warning was out in front at Newcastle
Global Warning broke his maiden tag with an emphatic success in the seven-furlong 0-80 handicap for three-year-olds and above at Newcastle earlier today, under Gerald Mosse.
Settled in the middle of the pack towards the centre of the track, it was interesting to see Gerald getting to work on Global Warning long before many of his rivals. Despite that, when finding some racing room over two furlongs out, Global Warning began to make giant strides to join a five-way tussle for the lead along with the strong-travelling Chosen World. Around a furlong and a half from home Warning had mastered that rival and made his way to the front, and it was simply a question of how he would see out the stiff Newcastle finish?
Well, he answered that question in no uncertain terms, putting daylight between himself and the rest of the field inside the final furlong, and looking stronger the further he went. On this evidence you would like to think he will stay a mile in time.
In the very next race his Kempton conqueror Daarick was Listed-placed, so there is every reason to hope that Global Warning has not reached the ceiling of his ability. The handicapper will inevitably have a say now, but hopefully this talented son of Poet’s Voice has not finished improving.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Global Warning’s owner Dr Johnny Hon, and thank all the staff at home for their continued hard work in preparing the horses for the races as we approach the turf season ‘proper’ and get busier and busier .
