Jabalaly
Good morning from Newmarket. After a blank day yesterday we continue to go quietly with just the one runner to keep us busy today, namely Jabalaly in the mile 0-75 handicap at 7.15 at Kempton.
We had hoped that this horse would be off the mark by now, as his initial efforts were highly encouraging. He was second to the subsequent Jersey Stakes winner Space Traveller on his only appearance at two, and then showed enormous promise in a couple of novices at Doncaster and Beverley earlier this year.
However, on handicap debut at Leicester over seven-furlongs in June he was never involved, and then he was a no show when stepped up to a mile - and following a gelding operation - on his most recent start at Chelmsford. In the weeks following that poor effort we have experimented with blinkers at home, and they seem to have had a positive effect, so we must hope that they work the oracle on the racecourse.
It is very frustrating to be drawn out in stall 12 of 14, but regardless of the final result we need to see some encouragement from this horse to learn more about his future prospects. He is talented enough to be involved, so I keep my fingers crossed that we will see a revival. Dane O’Neill takes the ride.
