Global Style, who runs in the 4.35 at Thirsk
Excitement has reached fever pitch for Royal Ascot and there should be some excellent racing on the first day this afternoon. We won’t be represented there until later in the week, but have runners at Thirsk and Brighton today to keep us busy.
It was pleasing last night to see our two-year-old filly Arctic Spirit run such a fine race when third at Nottingham. She has run with credit on each of her three career starts and should have a future in nurseries. Decoration Of War travelled very well into his race at the same venue but didn’t see it out.
In the 2.10 at Thirsk today, a six-furlong fillies’ novice, we run the Kyllachy filly Hallalulu. She missed the break on her recent debut at Kempton and could never get involved after that. I also train her half-sister Al Naforaah, who was well-beaten on debut before running an excellent race second time out. Hopefully similar improvement will be forthcoming today, but it will certainly be needed. Ben Curtis rides.
In the mile and a half handicap at the same meeting we run Global Style, a progressive son of Nathaniel. He is a half-brother to the Gr.1 Dewhurst and Lockinge winner and sire Belardo, but probably bears more resemblance to another half-sibling, Berling. Trained by my father, he was a son of Montjeu that took a good while to come to hand but eventually won in Listed company, before going on to a successful career in Scandinavia.
Global Style was placed on the second of three two-year-old outings and earned a rating of 74 for this season. He was a little disappointing on his comeback, but then finished an excellent and perhaps slightly unfortunate second at Redcar last time out. He saw his race out well that day so the additional two furlongs should be in his favour and hopefully he has a chance of going close this afternoon under James Sullivan.
Finally, we run Indian Warrior in the 5.40 at Brighton, a six-furlong 3yo+ handicap in which he will be ridden by Joey Haynes. Although an 11-race maiden, he is not short of ability and has been placed five times. The handicapper has started to take pity and his rating has dropped from a peak of 75 to 69. This is a competitive affair, but with conditions to suit he should run a reasonable race.
In Ascot news, we have declared Global Giant in the Hampton Court on Thursday, whilst Alternative Fact, Manjaam and Red Verdon all retain entries later in the week.
