Some things never change in Newmarket.
Overcast and not particularly warm.
We are on the way to Tudor Hall to drop Martha off at boarding school for the first time and there were tears all round this morning. Emily and Rose have had a super time there and we are sure Martha will as well.
It’s also myself and Mrs D’s twentieth wedding anniversary today – she probably deserves a medal!
We worked 10 two-year-olds on the flat gallop this morning and the ground was beautiful with a fresh strip having been opened up. All went well.
No runners this afternoon but four declarations for Saturday. Oasis Fantasy runs in the Old Borough Cup and Frankie keeps the ride. He has been given another poor draw, which is frustrating. Scrutinise goes to Thirsk under Paul Mulrennan while Kitten’s Red and Tajathub will head to Kempton. Franny Norton rides the former and Freddie Tylicki the latter.
Ten entries for Wednesday including three at Doncaster. Red Galileo has the option of the conditions race he finished runner-up in last year, while Qeyaadah has been entered in the nursery and Fieldsman the seven furlong handicap.
Another retirement was announced this morning with Clive Brittain the latest to bow out at the end of the season. He has been a wonderful trainer and character in Newmarket, while he was one of the first to pioneer international travel among British-based trainers. His legacy speaks for himself and he will be sorely missed, on the course and on the Heath. Keep dancing, Clive.
Back tomorrow. Ed.
