Muraadef

Hello and welcome from Newmarket on yet another hot and beautiful day! The rain is refusing to fall and that is complicating matters for many of our horses. However, we have found a couple to run this afternoon at Yarmouth that hopefully will cope just fine with underfoot conditions.

Our first representative is Reddiac in the 2.50, a six-furlong novice. A fairly expensive purchase at the Craven Breeze-Up earlier this year and from the family of Soviet Song, he made his debut in the Newmarket novice won by subsequent Coventry winner Calyx. Although ultimately beaten a long way, he showed up reasonably well early on, so it wasn’t the worst start to his career. Hopefully he can take a step forward this afternoon and enjoy his second racecourse outing, with Gerald Mosse doing the steering.

In the 3.50 we give another chance to the slightly disappointing Muraadef, who will be ridden by Dane O’Neill. A son of Kodiac, he ran with promise on his only start as a two-year-old last season in a race which was won by a 100-horse and featured lots of future winners. On his seasonal return he was beaten a long way when sixth at this track, but with the race being won by subsequent St James’s Palace Stakes winner Without Parole and featuring Britannia hero Ostilio in second, the form does not read so badly with hindsight. A couple of disappointing runs since mean that he lines up today from a mark of 60, which you would hope he could be competitive from. However, as recent racecourse evidence has been far from encouraging, we go in hope rather than expectation!

All the best,
Ed.
