It continues to be dry and breezy here in Newmarket although that may change this afternoon as we are due some rain. Ayr were due a lot of rain yesterday and unfortunately it duly arrived and today’s card has been abandoned. I hope it dries out for them so they can race on the final two days of what is their big meeting of the year.
Our debutants really pleased me yesterday at Yarmouth. Mr Gent and Grandscape both shaped with a lot of promise and they should improve when they make their second starts. Wealth Tax was disappointing and we may possibly give him a break now. Ruysch was too free up at Catterick and I think we need to run her back on better ground whilst King Kevin never got involved in the mile handicap. Al Nafoorah did not get the clearest of runs at Sandown and ran better than her finishing position suggested and Global Angel was a little disappointing in the Sandown mile Novice but he needs to strengthen a little more and I hope he will improve with time.
We have two runners today at Chelmsford and Yarmouth. Warrior Prince has been disappointing this year and his jockeys have felt he’s not been in love with the soft ground he has encountered recently. We are therefore switching him to the all-weather and as his family stays so well we are trying him up in trip at one mile six for the first time. He has not been drawn well but if he stays the trip then he is well handicapped on his 2016 form. Regal Gait could still have plenty of improvement in him and Nurse Nightingale was eye catching up at Newcastle and with De Sousa booked she should run well.
Miss Minding runs at Yarmouth in the 6f fillies’ Novice at 2:30. She showed she had some ability on debut but there are a couple of newcomers that are likely to be nice here. I hope she can take a step forward on what she showed last time and display some promise.
