Mrs Haggas demonstrates her skills.

Foggy first thing but a warm and pleasant morning now.

It’s good to have the weather onside for the Open Weekend, which promises to be great fun. If you are close by over the next couple of days, or just fancy doing something different, then definitely do come along. Our doors will, of course, be open tomorrow morning and we look forward to welcoming plenty of people through the gates. The entire weekend is about raising money for a number of great causes and is something everyone in the town looks forward to every year.

Things got a bit serious as the final preparations were made yesterday with Mrs Haggas popping in after evening stables to school Smiley before the show jumping on Sunday. A former eventer for Great Britain, she showed us all how it was done.

A busy work morning racecourse side with the grass riding beautifully following the recent rain. The gallopers included Scrutinise, who was given an entry this morning over a mile and six at Haydock to go with his two mile and a half engagements next week.

One runner this afternoon as Fieldsman heads to Ayr for their seven furlong handicap. He was scheduled to run at Yarmouth on Thursday before the weather intervened, and we have been fortunate enough to sneak in the bottom of the handicap here. He against battle-hardened older horses, but he showed a welcome return to form when second to an improver last time and off the same mark he must have a decent shout with the ground to suit.

One declaration for Monday with Rock ‘n Red set to make her second start in the seven furlong fillies’ maiden at Kempton. Freddie Tylicki will ride.

A number of entries for Friday including four for day two of the Cambridgeshire Meeting. Red Galileo could bid for compensation in the Listed race he was just touched off in last year while Island Remede has been given the option of the Princess Royal Stakes, ground permitting.

England were a little sloppy yesterday but five points keeps us rolling. Improvement is required to get the big boys worried, but for now it's all systems go.

Have a wonderful weekend – hopefully we will see plenty of you tomorrow!

Ed.
