Noodle sunbathing.

Red hot.

Mrs D and I enjoyed an excellent evening celebrating William Sporborg’s fiftieth birthday yesterday. This morning was a little bit of a struggle, for some more than others…

The fun continues tonight with our annual staff party. Hannah has been put in charge of organising this one and we have a rodeo bull booked among other delights. Tomorrow morning could be interesting for those unfortunate enough to be working.

Jason won’t be working for a little having fallen putting a two-year-old through the stalls this morning. Scans have revealed a left wrist broken in two places – we wish him a speedy recovery.

Three runners this afternoon spearheaded by Zarwaan in Listed company at Chester. We were delighted to see him notch his second win at Newcastle and given they didn’t go overly fast early and he had to lump ten stone, it was quite a performance. The track is an unknown, but he’s in great nick, the ground will be fine and this doesn’t look the strongest race for the level.

At York, God Willing lines up in the mile handicap and he has to put a disappointing performance at Epsom behind him. That said, he didn’t handle the track on that occasion and the ground was very fast, while he ran well here last year under Paul Mulrennan when fourth over a mile and one, just finding his stamina stretched in the last furlong. This race is as competitive as they come, but he has his conditions and an ok draw.

Lastly, Hajeer lines up in the juvenile maiden. She works better than her Newmarket effort implies but York maidens invariably turn out to be very good.

Two declarations for Monday with Pyla and Mustatrif, a juvenile newcomer by Bahamian Bounty, both Wetherby bound.

A mammoth 15 entries spread across six meetings next Friday, including Prince Gagarin in the Glasgow Stakes.

Shame about the tennis but we’ve got to win the first Test, surely?

Finally, Chad leaves Britain for Hong Kong tomorrow morning to spend six months with the HKJC gaining experience in the Far East. It has been a pleasure having him with us and we wish him all the very best for the future.

Have a fantastic weekend.

Ed
