First lot crossing the bury road this morning
A glorious morning on the Newmarket heath, we’re set for a very hot day!
We worked ten on the Al Bahathri this morning. They included Hajeer who we have not declared for Kempton on Monday and Pyla who holds an entry at Bath next week-everything went smoothly.
Trip To Paris was a little disappointing in the Lonsdale Cup yesterday, I believe this should be attributed to the slow ground. Conditions for all the horses were very tacky and TTP was unable to show his turn of foot. Thankfully he is fine today and is now having a well earnt holiday at Longholes Stud while we decide what to do next! Australia very much remains an option.
Michael’s Mount made a promising debut at Sandown running a bit green but staying on quite purposefully up the hill. He is bred to be a middle distance horse in time but he is clearly not slow either.
Three runners today, spear-headed by Island Remede in the Listed handicap at Chester and by all accounts a bit of rain is due to fall shortly which is good as our filly is most effective when she can get her toe in. She’s quite attractively handicapped on the pick of her form and things haven’t really gone right for her since the Further Flight in April with the ground being quick on her last three runs. The track shouldn’t be a problem, she’s got a good draw and Richard Kingscote finished second on her in a Newbury Group 3 last year. We are hopeful of a big run.
This evening Mustatrif and Global Avenger line up in a 1m maiden at Chelmsford, both have something to prove after low key starts in their careers but this trip ought to suit the pair.
What a great result in the Nunthorpe yesterday, it was superb spectacle with Acapulco some sight in full flight but Mecca’s Angel proved she is probably the best sprinter in Europe and congratulations to Michael Dods and Paul Mulrennan who both deserved to get their first Group 1 on the board.
The Australians are dominating us at the Oval but at least the Ashes are already home! Meanwhile the Irish look to appear to dominate the Ebor- a great race lies in store.
