RED CADEAUX yet again put in a gallant effort to finish third yesterday in the Group 1, Tenno Sho in Kyoto, Japan, under a fine ride by regular pilot Gerald Mosse. On a track that was firmer than he would like, he was always travelling strongly and came into the home bend with every chance but could not quite peg back the leading pair.
The race time was just 0.8 seconds shy of the course record set by Japanese wonder-horse Deep Impact. The winner, second favourite Fenomeno, was 5th in the Japan Cup last year, and is predicted to be strong opposition to Gentildonna and Orfevre for the top Group 1 prizes in Japan, while hot favourite Gold Ship faded to finish a disappointing fifth.
Red Cadeaux took home approximately £230,000 bringing his career earnings to £3.3 million, over 2.3 million of which has been won in the last twelve months. Quite some record! Owner, Ronnie Arculli, made the trip to Kyoto and was absolutely delighted with his ultra-consistent performer.
Our star is reported to be fine after the race and he, Robin and Steve are not coming home yet! Their next journey is to Singapore where Red C will run in the International Cup on 19th May over 10 furlongs.
"Red Cadeaux has run an amazing race on ground that was far too firm for him. Robin and Steve have yet again done a great job and I am pleased to report that he has come out of the race in good condition and will now be aimed for the Singapore International Cup. After this he will return to us for a bit of a holiday!!" as quoted by Ed.
