Storm Jazz
It was a colder start to proceedings here at HQ this morning and it hovered just above freezing but the skies are blue and the going at the Rowley Mile is currently fast. It is amazing to think that unless the rain on Saturday is substantial, the final meeting of the year here will be run on faster ground than it has been for most of the year.
I was much happier with Global Applause on Saturday, he travelled well without over racing on the drop back to 5f and with a clear run he would have gone very close to winning. It was nice to win with Amplification on Friday, he got the better of another nice type in a close finish and I think he will progress next year with a Winter on his back. Grandscape ran well when fourth and we will step him up in trip at three. Qaswarah showed plenty of promise in the 1m Maiden fillies’ and she just got tired late on. Sageness made some ground from the rear late and she is a big filly who will improve next year. Sparte Quercus ran respectably at Wolverhampton but the race was not run to suit him and he had to challenge wide.
We run two horses today at Leicester and Redcar. Storm Jazz runs in a wide open Nursery at the Midlands venue. She showed promise on her first two starts and I am hoping a return to the turf will see her repeat that promise today. The draw in two is not ideal but I hope she can still find cover and run well. Dark Blue is exposed but she has got her head in front and Robinson Crusoe does not appear to be straight forward but looks to have ability and could be fairly handicapped with Hollie Doyle taking off three pounds. Arnarson has proved to be frustrating but he runs in a Redcar 7f Maiden that looks to lack depth. If he handles the softer surface he should be thereabouts as long as the newcomer Straight Away is not above average, she is bred to be useful.
