Makman
It is a warm day again here in Newmarket although it has been overcast at times. The horses are all well and it was fantastic to have a Black Type winner on Saturday at Ascot. They had a quiet morning today out on the heath and there were no excitements to report. It is looking like a busy week ahead with seven runners on Wednesday.
We had five runners on Saturday and the highlight was Apex King winning the 7f Listed contest for two year olds at Ascot. He showed a marvellous attitude despite getting caught slightly on his own in the middle of the track and I am looking forward to running him over a mile. His next start will more than likely be in the Royal Lodge. Opposition was third in the concluding handicap but he ran a little flat and we will freshen him up for later in the year. First Quest ran well on debut in the Newmarket opener and was not beaten that far, I would hope he can improve for the run. Sharaakah was too keen in the early stages of the 7f fillies’ handicap and did not quite finish her race off when finishing fourth. Justice First ran in the Beeswing but did not see out the stiff seven furlongs.
Makman is our sole representative today in the 5f Wolverhampton Nursery at 5:40. I am hoping that he will improve for his comeback run and he has been showing the right signs at home. He does have the burden of top weight but he ran into two nice two year olds at Chelmsford and this looks easier.
England are close to levelling the series with Pakistan in the cricket and Joe Root’s double century was a fine knock. I hope they can go on to win the series from here.
