Wealth Tax
It was another day of informative racing on Saturday and Barney Roy was extremely impressive in winning the Greenham. He shaped as if the extra furlong of the Guineas will suit him perfectly whereas Dream Castle was a little keen and shaped as if he would have the speed for 6f potentially. We are starting to get busier and have five runners on Wednesday and we have made nineteen entries for Saturday. The two year olds are coming along gently and we run another tomorrow and have entered one on Saturday. It continues to be dry here in Newmarket but some forecasts suggest rain is on the horizon and I hope it arrives.
Amazing Red did not run on Saturday as the ground ended up being faster than we wanted. King Kevin ran in a strong Nottingham Maiden and although he was well beaten he showed a little promise for the future. Zamadance was sixth in the 1m2f handicap and the way he stayed on suggested he will stay 1m4f once he learns to relax better.
We have two runners today. Sileel runs in the 1m Maiden Fillies’ at 4:20 and she is a filly who will benefit from her first run. Thafeera was second to the Nell Gwyn winner Daban and will be seriously hard to beat and there appear to be a lot of nice fillies in the race. Wealth Tax steps up markedly in trip to contest the 1m3 handicap at 4:50. I would ideally have liked to have started at 1m2f on soft ground but we have decided to start him off here given the lack of rain. He has pleased me at home and I would expect the step up in trip to suit although the eleventh furlong is a slight concern. Captain Peacock is the horse we all have to beat and he looks to possess a lot of talent but he has gone up seven pounds for his latest win and is not totally straightforward. The New Pharaoh has talent but needs to rediscover his form and Prendergast Hill his beginning to become well handicapped. We have a decent chance and I hope he can run well today before then running on the turf afterwards when we get some rain.
