Amplification
It is a beautiful day here at HQ and the forecast is set to reach 22oc! The forecast is meant to deteriorate in the middle of the week and Ascot may have a hard decision to make come Thursday morning. The inner track is currently firm, good to firm in places and the outer track is good ground but if the forecast rain is at the high end of expectations, the good ground on the outer track may well become soft ground.
Michael’s Mount ran respectably in third yesterday. We ran into a three year old filly that has improved for a break and she was very impressive but it was a solid run.
We have seven runners today at Windsor and Yarmouth. Global Exceed is our first runner in the 2:00 at Windsor. I think he is a better horse over 6f but this 5f Nursery is not a deep race and I am hoping we will get away with it as he does possess speed. La Belle Mayson is lightly raced and makes her Nursery debut so you have to respect her back on a sounder surface and she has been well found in the market. Sparte Quercus runs in the 2:30 at Windsor and he has been very consistent recently but we have found one better on the last two occasions. I am hoping the ground won’t be too fast for him and if it isn’t he should run another solid race. He is vulnerable to an improver such as Garrick and Just Pires and it’s a decent race for a Monday.
Conflagration is a nice horse that we purchased at the Breeze Up sale. We wound him down after that and have brought him along gradually. Whatever he does today he will improve on and whilst it is not a deep race, he lacks the experience of the main protagonists and that may well find him out. Colourful Career is our last runner at Windsor and he runs in the 1m Maiden at 5:00. He ran promisingly last time at Chelmsford and if he builds on that he should go close. Paradise Lake drops back into calmer waters here and has to be respected whilst Spanish History finished behind a horse that was a good second at Goodwood yesterday and although he was well beaten that day he does not have a lot to find to figure here.
Amplification is our first runner at Yarmouth in the 2:10. He is a horse I like but it looks like a deep race and I just hope he runs with promise. Alfarqad shaped with significant promise on debut and if he builds on that he will be very hard to beat. Capricious Cantor steps up to 1m6f for the first time in the Listed fillies’ Beckford Stakes. She has plenty to find with the top three rated but I have freshened her up since her last run and if she improves for the extra distance I hope she can run respectably before she heads to the paddocks to be a broodmare. King Kevin is our final runner at the Norfolk venue in the 10f handicap at 4:10. He ran well from a bad draw last time and I hope he can back that effort up here. It looks a wide open race but he looks to have claims in a race where only the favourite Broughtons Story has got their head in front previously
