Inniscastle Lad
Inniscastle Lad joined us in late 2015 and showed very little over an extended mile on his stable debut at Wolverhampton. He raced very lazily there and never got competitive so we decided to reapply headgear when he tackled ten furlongs for the first time in a three runner race at Lingfield. He broke well under Silvestre De Sousa and he was soon dictating a slow early pace. The Champion slowly wound up the pace and had to get serious with the son of Kyllachy as he approached the final bend. He looked to be travelling second best as the favourite Robins Pearl loomed up under Adam Kirby but he was not for passing and he crossed the line two and half lengths to the good at the finish.
Given the small field we will not get carried away with our gelding's victory but it was great to see him get his head in front and we now know that he needs middle distances to be seen at his best. He had shown a lot of speed as a two year old but as he has got older stamina appears to be more his forte. We hope the handicapper is not too aggressive with him given the weak nature of the race.
Well done to everyone in the yard for reaching ten winners in April, it is a superb achievement and the hard work everyone is putting in is paying off. As May approaches it would be fantastic if we can keep the momentum going and try and hit double figures for the month once more.
