Homeric breaks his maiden

Tue 02 October 2012

HOMERIC broke his maiden in fine style at Wolverhampton today under a confident ride from Philip Makin. The Montjeu gelding is out of the Woodman mare Al Saqiya and is owned by Highclere Thoroughbred Racing – The Jackson Syndicate. This three year old had always promised to be a decent sort after a nice introductory run at Nottingham this time last year. However, after a few hiccups along the way this year, the penny has finally dropped and this was evident when he finished a good second last time out at Pontefract over a mile and a quarter. He got his act together today, Makin giving him every chance in the mile and a half event,  keeping him tucked in behind the leaders and well positioned to make his challenge when required. He kept on well once he was pulled out and stayed on in the dying strides to score by a neck from Chancery. This fellow still has plenty of scope to improve further and the best of him has yet to be seen.
