Heathen finished his 2022 season in style when winning comfortably at Newcastle over 1m4f in September for Mr Turner. He made his 2023 reappearance a succesful one over the same trip at Wolverhampton on Monday after a 159 days break for the Horse Watchers 10.
The returning Oisin Murphy gave Heathen a lovely straightforward ride aiding him to overcome the 8lbs rise since his win last season. However it looks like there is more to come from this four year old son of Lope De Vega who has matured over the winter and will provide the team with lots of fun this year. He has come out of the race well and his work will be assessed over the coming weeks as to where he goes next.
While we are still quiet and have few runners it is very satisfying to get another winner on the board for 2023, with three of the five horses we’ve run this year earning wins next to their name.
As the flat season draws closer and the horses work increases plenty of plans are being made as to where they will start their campaign. It is a very exciting time of year and while the weather is still yet to feel spring like the season doesn’t feel far away.
