There were celebrations at La Grange Stables last night as Global Giant and Gerald Mosse delivered a first Listed success of the season for the yard.
The victory was particularly sweet as the horse richly deserved to get his head front after some tremendous placed efforts in recent months, and we had four races to choose from during the week, so it was a relief to pick the right opening!
There was a momentary concern as Global Giant missed the break quite noticeably, but Gerald soon had the horse travelling strongly in fifth position, as market rival Curly took the field along. Rounding the home turn Gerald began to urge Global Giant closer, and he hit the front stylishly inside the final two furlongs. For a brief time it looked as though Mazzuri was going to lay down a severe challenge, but Global Giant had plenty more up his sleeve and galloped on resolutely to record a two and three-quarter length victory.
Out of the multiple Listed-placed Dalakhani mare Aniseed, Global Giant has now won two of his ten starts and over £65,000 in win and place prize money. He won his maiden on the July course last summer, and has this season finished second in the Gr.3 Winter Hill Stakes and Gr.3 Diamond Stakes. This maiden Stakes victory was a career best performance, and opens up a whole host of opportunities for the colt in the future.
We send our warmest congratulations to owner Dr Johnny Hon and his team, winning jockey Gerald Mosse, and thank all the staff in the yard for their continued hard work - and in particular Scott and Dan who travelled over to Ireland with the horse and looked after him immaculately. It has been a trying season, but this is just the sort of result that puts a spring in everyone’s step!
