The barrier draw takes place after Derby Day tomorrow – I’ll keep you posted.
Mrs D and I enjoyed dinner with Alec Leopold and Leanne Norman this evening. They own a Cape Cross two-year-old filly with us and she has recently been named Capricious Cantor, which is certainly out of the ordinary and one we won’t forget. An excellent time was had by all.
Matt Coleman was active on my behalf at the HIT Sale yesterday and he bought lot 1313, the 67-rated Inniscastle Lad, who will form part of a winter string for our apprentices to gain some valuable experience on. He has just lost his way of late, but he had useful form at two and shows plenty of dash, so hopefully we can have some fun with him.
Our runners performed with credit at Lingfield yesterday. I was delighted Clarentine was able to secure some black type and we might look for more Listed contests in the coming months as she is well worth her place in stakes company.
Arethusa faced an impossible task from a wide draw, but she probably ran to around her mark and will return to handicaps before the December Mare Sale.
Timia showed lots of speed on debut and just got tired in the last half-furlong. She will certainly be winning races.
We saddle one at Newmarket this afternoon and I am told it has been cold, wet and miserable all morning.
The mile and a half fillies’ handicap has been the plan for Sagaciously for some time and she ran well on the Rowley Mile when fourth in the Montrose last season. She was a little keen early at Ascot and probably didn’t get home, but she’s feasibly handicapped on her nose defeat in midsummer and underfoot conditions will be right up her street. Tom Marquand is excellent value for his 3lb claim and she holds solid claims.
