The string circling before working on the Flat Gallop

A chilly and overcast morning here at Headquarters. We worked on the Flat Gallop and it was genuine good ground under foot. I was happy with how all my horses went and we are hoping to have a number of runners next week.

Three horses run today with Gloryette being our sole representative at Sandown and Alqubbah and Red Verdon running up at Doncaster. Gloryette is a well bred filly being out of Mrs Patino’s smart mare Cara Fantasy. The Sandown maiden she is running in nearly always throws up a smart filly and this year both divisions looks like they are filled with smart types. She is a big filly and a little backward so I will happy to see her show some promise but I will we will see better from her later in the year.

Alqubbah runs in the six furlong handicap at Doncaster, she showed some smart form for us at two, she was convincingly beaten by Nathra but she won her maiden over six furlongs at Yarmouth and the second Fourth Way was subsequently Listed placed. It is a competitive race but she has been showing up well at home and we hope she can be competitive here. Red Verdon is a big gross horse who is very lazy at home, the ten furlong handicap he runs in also looks competitive and he will come on for this run.

It looks like we will have some exciting racing over the next days which will be very informative. I was impressed with So Di Mar at Epsom on Wednesday although it is hard to know the value of the form given the second was rated ninety nine. There should be some more Oaks clues on offer at Sandown today and there are some very interesting three year old handicaps being run today and tomorrow that could well throw up a future Group race winner. Most interestingly we have the reappearance of Midterm who is second favourite for the Derby, he was rerouted here from Newbury and he is up against some interesting rivals.
