It has been wet at times this morning but thankfully it is milder than yesterday. We have continued to tick away with the horses and earlier on the week the babies went up the Warren Hill grass canter which has recently opened.
Global Angel took advantage of a drop down to 0-60 company when winning at Chelmsford yesterday. The step back up in trip helped him and he may stay further than ten furlongs in time. It was not a strong race but I hope this win gives him some confidence and that he can be competitive again in the future.
King Kevin has been a revelation this Winter and he runs in a ten furlong handicap at Chelmsford this afternoon. He faces seven rivals and the biggest danger looks to be Shamrokh who won well over a mile here recently. He escapes a penalty for that victory and does have form over the ten furlong trip. Red Hot Chilly ran better last time and has form over course and distance but he remains a Maiden. Golden Nectar returns from a break and still has to prove herself over this trip whilst Hard Toffee ran better last time but needs to step up again on what he has shown recently. Lazarus is a course and distance winner but has to put a disappointing effort at Newcastle behind him where he didn’t get home over an extended mile and a half. The Third Man is dropping to an attractive mark and his turn should come soon whilst Echo Brava drops in grade having shown nothing since returning from a layoff.
We hope King Kevin can continue his upward progression and if he does then he should go close. He seemed to win with a little up his sleeve last time although it might be harder to give up ground around Chelmsford in this grade, so I hope he breaks a little better later on today. It could be a messily run affair as there is a lack of obvious pace in the race and it could get quite tactical.
