Roca Magica
Afternoon all
I am pleased to report that visibility was much improved this morning after a few foggy mornings here in Newmarket. I would like to wish everybody a Happy Chinese New Year for tomorrow. Lucky numbers for people born in the Year of the Rat are two and three, so with Roca Magica coming out of stall three we are hopeful of some good luck, albeit a day early.
Looking ahead to tonight’s race we are optimistic of a strong run. She is very well at home and has a good draw in stall three. There should be some early pace on allowing her to settle nicely. Michael Appleby’s, N Over J, looks a danger although slightly disappointing last time out. Irish raider, Dayereh, look’s interesting on the pick of her Dundalk form.
We have two runners declared for Saturday; Magnificia goes in the 7f maiden at Lingfield, whilst Sir Gnet lines up at Kempton for Division 2 of the 1m 2f handicap. Magnificia is in good form at home and we are hopeful of a nice effort. On early form John Gosden’s, Deverell, is probably the horse to beat in the maiden, although there are some interesting newcomers. At Kempton, Thunderoad was unlucky not to win last time out at Wolverhampton so needs respecting. Avorisk Et Perils for Gary Moore rates an obvious danger, whilst Tom Ward teams up with the red hot Hollie Doyle, saddling Cheeky Rascal. Sir Gnet has come out of his last start well and should continue to give his running.
Looking back at yesterday I was pleased enough with Grandscapes’ run at Southwell. He probably found himself too far back early on, in a race that was run at a muddling tempo. Before the race apprentice jockey, Sophie Smith, gave a lovely insightful interview on At The Races, all adding to her experience.
I would like to wish Champion Jumps Jockey, Richard Johnson, all the best and a speedy recovery after his fall earlier this week.
I will update you further in the week regarding any changes or news.
All the best,
Ed
