Qaaraat
It was a very intriguing Craven meeting and the Craven itself was very informative with Eminent looking a very good prospect both for the short and long term. He looks like he will keep on improving and not many will be finishing better than him coming out of the dip in the Guineas. Rivet ran a solid race and Benbatl was keen unlike on debut and he too should improve if he relaxes. It was unfortunate that the ground was the top side of good as it meant I did not have many runners but given the weather it was beautiful ground, especially on the first day. I worked a few more two year olds this morning on the Al Bahathri and we have our first two year old runner today at Newbury, they seem to be a nice bunch and we have bought six at the Breeze Ups.
It had been eight years since my last treble but all three of our runners got their heads in front on Wednesday. Amlad kept lengthening well and showed a good attitude to win the 1m2f Maiden at Beverley, I hope he will stay further in time which will allow us to unlock some more improvement from him. Global Revival shows a lot more on the track than he does at home and it is fantastic that he stays 1m4f well, it means he could still be unexposed despite having had quite a lot of runs. Mulzim won the 7f handicap at Wolverhampton and although he only won by a neck there are reasons to think he can win again, he was keen after he had to be asked to go forward from his wide draw and when he settles better I would hope he can step forward again. It was a great day and has given us a lot of encouragement going forward.
Qaaraat is our first two year old runner of the season and he runs in the 5f Maiden at Newbury at 2:00. He is a lovely horse by Acclamation who I like but this race is normally very strong so we are hopeful of a good run but are not confident of winning. Charlie Appleby has won with his first two year old runner and his string seem very forward. The Hannon team are flying and run two in the race whilst Spoof has been well backed for Charlie Hills and Headway is a son of Havana Gold who could make a big impact as a sire this season. Zamjar runs in a red hot handicap at 4:10 and I have taken the blinkers off as he was too keen in them last time over 6f. He has some solid form but he is more exposed than most and I am just hoping we may eek a little improvement out of him over this trip. Chessman has been all the rage and could be anything whilst Solomon’s Bay looked useful when breaking his Maiden and he was highly tried afterwards. This will be a race that will be worth watching two or three times as plenty of winners will emerge from it in the future.
