FAREER showed just how good he is on May 13 when winning the Listed Hambleton Stakes at York. The Sheikh Hamdan-owned colt, who took the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot last season, looked back to his best today under a canny front-running ride from jockey Richard Hills.
Hills set the perfect fractions and had many of his rivals off the bridle with quarter of a mile to go. Inside the final furlong they queued up to take him on but the son of Bahamian Bounty stuck his neck out gamely to score by a head from the fast-finishing Rainbow Peak.
A delighted Dunlop said of his 11-2 scorer: "I'm very pleased with that. He was very fresh at Sandown first time out but it was his first run for a very long time.
He's got some very smart entries at Ascot but we'll just have to wait and see.
One thing about this horse is he can only get better."
