Whilst many of us were having a quiet afternoon last Sunday, Carol was on the road and heading across to Wales in preparation for her engagement at Chepstow on Monday afternoon. The daughter of Acclamation had run many fine races in defeat and the 1m fillies’ Maiden on Monday afternoon looked like a suitable opportunity for her to shed her Maiden status.
Joe Fanning bounced our filly out from the gates and he had to temper her enthusiasm as she raced a little keenly in the opening exchanges. He sat her just behind the leader and Carol travelled sweetly throughout the contest. She began to edge closer coming to the two furlong marker and readily went to the front approaching the final furlong. Our filly won comfortably by two and a half lengths from the second favourite Getna who stayed on when it was too late.
It was fantastic to see our filly break her Maiden as she had run many game races in some competitive handicaps. This was a drop down in class and we hope the handicapper will not change her mark given the second horse did not appear to handle the track. Carol has now proven she is versatile in regards to the ground and we will more than likely stick at a mile with her when she is next seen out on a racecourse.
Congratulations to Carol’s owner Mrs Patino. Carol is a homebred filly out of Mrs Patino’s mare Miss Topsy Turvy and this was an important win as Carol is her dam’s first winner. Well done to everybody here at La Grange, it has been a fruitful June in terms of winners and we hope to take this forward into July.
