"It's been a good week so far," reflected Ed after LEMON DROP RED had won on the Polytrack at Wolverhampton on Tuesday, thus topping up the celebrations from the success of DRAGONERA at Ripon the previous evening.
The brace could not have come at a better time, what with the prestigious Newmarket July meeting being staged later in the week, and Ed confessed that he is more than happy with the way the team are shaping up as we approach the half-way stage of the season.
Ed, never one to mix up his geese with swans, said:"Dragonera was 3lb higher than when winning a classified race at York, but she is improving all the time and Neil Callan rode her with a lot of confidence at Ripon."
"She was a tall, weak filly who needed to fill her shell, but she has matured these past few months and, having won first time out at Wolverhampton, she was very unlucky at Sandown as she found herself the meat in the sandwich and almost went down on her knees. She came back with a cut leg but that quickly healed up, and she has now won twice since, so we have to be happy with her progress."
"Similarly, Lemon Drop Red is going the right way, and, though penalised 6lb for winning at Brighton, he is due to go up 9lb in future handicaps so was, in effect 3lb well in at Wolverhampton. He only won half a length, but he was idling in front and I was very pleased."
