04-12-09’Gifted’ Jockey Kieren On Song.
GIFTED APAKAY proved to be a lucky buy for the Turkish based Araci family who purchased the filly by the Brazilian bred Leroidesanimaux at the Breeze Up Sales at Newmarket in April. The filly is amongst the first group of racehorses the Araci’s have bought and they regularly fly over to see their horses on the gallops and at the races.
Mr and Mrs Araci were present at Lingfield on Friday to witness their first winner to be trained in Great Britain and Kieren Fallon showed why he has been champion jockey on six occasions with a power-packed display that secured victory.
The irresistible Fallon drive really coaxed the best out of the filly who opened her account with a win in the second division of the 1m fillies’ maiden.
Fallon’s mount was slightly slowly into stride but the Irish rider soon urged her to close to within striking distance of the hot favourite Fashion Insider, herself on the heels of the early leader Mater Mater.
Fashion Insider took over upfront around the top bend but Gifted Apakay was still travelling powerfully. Fallon switched his mount to the inside as they approached the final furlong and she wore down the odds-on shot close home.
It was success at the third attempt for trainer Ed Dunlop’s charge who triumphed by a neck at odds of 14/1.
