ATHWAAB went through the gears in making a successful nursery bow at Kempton on September 4.
The Cadeaux Genereux filly, handed a mark of 67 after three runs in which she was unable to make the frame, was an altogether different proposition in this 6f event.
Tom McLaughlin was aboard the 10/1 chance and earned his fee after his mount was keen towards the rear in the early strides.
The jockey did a good job to settle her but approaching the halfway point Athwaab endured a less than straightforward passage.
McLaughlin asked her for an effort at the two-furlong pole and she responded willingly, wearing down her rivals.
Having gone inside the final furlong, trainer Ed Dunlop’s charge maintained her momentum to lead before running out successful by three parts of a length
