07-07-2009 Habaayib declared for Cherry Hinton
HABAAYIB is among the 10 fillies declared for the Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes on Wednesday at Newmarket.
None of those who finished behind her in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot re-oppose but she does take on the second, third, fourth and fifth from the Queen Mary Stakes.
Trainer Ed Dunlop is confident that he has the daughter of Royal Applause in the best possible condition and has fingers crossed for a big run.
He said: “She seems very well. I feel she has improved physically for racing and hope she is still progressing. It is a tough race but I hope she can go well.”
After the second race on Wednesday Dunlop won't mind if the heavens open and the ground turns soft enough for LAST THREE MINUTES to take his chance in the mile handicap, the final event of the card.
The son of Val Royal was a fast finishing third in a handicap at York last time and connections feel that he can be competitive again.
Dunlop added: “He will not run if the ground is too fast but we'd like to get him out if we can. He got into traffic problems last time but I’m hopeful that the straight at Newmarket will be wide enough to ensure this won't happen on Wednesday.”
Among Dunlop’s other possible runners at Newmarket is AQWAAL who finished a good fifth in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Dunlop said of the son of Red Ransom: “Aqwaal is a possible for the mile and a quarter handicap on Thursday. He went up 8lb for his run at Ascot but now dropping back to handicap company should hopefully run well.”
On the same day Dunlop would like to run DERBAAS who hasn’t been seen since finishing third in the Silver Bowl at Haydock in May.
He added: “He is entered in the mile conditions race on Thursday and I think it would really suit him as he seems in great form at home. But he would only run if the ground was soft enough.”
Last year’s Victoria Cup second AL KHALEEJ, who hasn’t been seen since that run 426 days ago, could make a possible reappearance in the Bunbury Cup on Friday.
Dunlop said: “He hasn’t raced for a very long time and will definitely come on for the run. If the ground is too quick we won't run him.”
