09-06-2009 Dunlop trio under Britannia consideration
TRAINER Ed Dunlop could be triple-handed in next week’s Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot courtesy of the Sheikh Hamdan-owned pair DERBAAS and FAREER - and also SATWA LAIRD .
Both Derbaas and Fareer were last seen in action when finishing third and fifth respectively in the Silver Bowl at Haydock last month.
Dunlop said: “Derbaas ran very well at Haydock last time. He is now rated 104 which means he will have a lot of weight. That will make it hard for him but he seems in good form and should go well.
“Fareer won a very competitive handicap at the Chester May meeting but then found the ground a little too soft at Haydock.
“We gave him a bit of a break and now he seems very well and I am happy with him.”
Dunlop’s third potential runner is Satwa Laird. The son of Johannesburg didn’t seem to handle the track when down the field in a hot 7f handicap at Epsom last Friday but Ed reports that he has returned in good heart and should be more suited to the less undulating terrain at Ascot.
