28-05-2009 Dunlop happy with promising pair
TRAINER Ed Dunlop was encouraged by the respective performances of DERBAAS and FAREER in the Silver Bowl Handicap at Haydock on Saturday.
The pair, both owned by Sheikh Hamdan, are pencilled in for Royal Ascot where the Britannia Handicap is their likely objective.
Derbaas, who gave 20lbs to the winner, was third in the £85,000 contest which was won by Desert Creek.
Dunlop said: “He ran a great race and is a possible for Royal Ascot. We were disappointed with his previous run at Newmarket (when he was well beaten in the Feilden Stakes) but he probably found the ground a bit quick that day.”
Fareer was an impressive winner at Chester last time out and put up another good effort to finish fifth on a soft surface that was less than ideal for him.
Ed reflected: “Fareer got slightly stuck in the mud as well as getting hampered. He likes fast going so could also be an Ascot possible.”
