18-05-2009 Aqwaal completes hat-trick with brave Newbury win
AQWAAL underlined his credentials as a progressive type when winning the Aon Gold Cup Handicap at Newbury on Saturday.
In a thrilling finish, jockey Richard Hills drove out Aqwaal to edge the 1m 2f contest by a head from Decision.
It was the son of Red Ransom’s third win on the bounce following his maiden win at Goodwood last season and an impressive victory in handicap company at Sandown last time out.
Trainer Ed Dunlop this morning indicated that his charge could now be in line for a possible tilt at the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot in June.
He said: “It was very pleasing to see him win again – and in that style. He battled well and is progressing nicely.
“He’ll be aimed at the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot and we’ll speak to connections to see if he runs again before then.”
