03-11-2008 Mischief Making makes winning comeback
Mischief Making or Bertha as she is better known as to the staff at Ed Dunlop’s, made a winning return to the race track on Thursday when she won the Listed River Eden Fillies Stakes at Lingfield. Partnered by her regular pilot Tom McLaughlin, Mischief Making was held up towards the rear early on in the mile and five contest. She made good progress three furlongs out, despite getting a bump on the bend and took up the lead inside the final furlong. She was pushed along but the further she went the better she was and she won the race comfortably from Samira Gold.
We were thrilled with this result as she was coming back from a five month break. Mischief Making was our first winner of the year when she broke her Maiden at Southwell. She followed this up with wins at Wolverhampton and Catterick before taking her place in the Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket. The trip was too short for her on this occasion and she finished sixth. After a below par effort in a Group 3 in France, Mischief Making was given a break over the summer and we targeted this Listed race as a comeback race for her.
This win will have considerably enhanced her paddock value and the fact that she broke the track record makes it even more impressive. She seems to have come out of the race very well and she may now stay in training.
