14-07-2008 Dunlop bounces back with across the card double
After what has been a pretty quiet spell on the winners front at Ed Dunlop Racing, we were thrilled to see Zaffaan and Arabian Spirit win their maidens on Friday and give trainer, Ed Dunlop, an across the card double.
Zaffaan got the day off to a flying start when he won the ICAP EBF Maiden Stakes at Ascot. Richard Quinn was on board the colt, who sat handy throughout the six furlong Maiden. He took up the lead a furlong out and stayed on well to win by nearly four lengths. This was an impressive win from Zaffaan, who clearly relished the softer conditions and he looks to be a horse with a bright future ahead of him.

Arabian Spirit rounded off the day with a decisive victory at Chepstow. Ridden by Tom Queally, this attractive son of Oasis Dream was handy throughout the first half of the seven furlong Handicap before taking up the lead two furlongs out. He ran on well and was pushed out to the line under hands and heels and won the race by almost three lengths. This was a great result for his owners and he looks to be a horse who will give them some fun for the remainder of the season.

Fareer and Mefraas also put in good performances. Fareer was second in a competitive Newmarket Nursery and Mefraas ran well on heavy ground at York to finish third in a Maiden.
