19-02-2008 Yokozuna – Pims Partnership
In a new feature to the website, we are going to take a closer look at our owners and their respective horses.
The first feature is on a new racing partnership to Ed Dunlop racing. The Pims Partnership are in their first year together and they own the two year old colt, Yokozuna .
The Pims Partnership is made up of four partners, Mr Quy, Mr Herbert, Mr Pepper and Mr O’Sullivan. Mr Quy has already had notable success as an owner with Ed Dunlop Racing, as his wife owned Desert Royalty, who won several races with us and currently has Pharaoh’s Queen in training with us. Mr Herbert had success in a partnership with us a few years ago and we delighted that he has decided to join forces with us once again. For Mr Pepper and Mr O’Sullivan this is their first venture into racehorse ownership, so let’s hope that it is a successful one!

Yokozuna
Speaking about the two year old colt, Ed Dunlop said “Yokozuna is a precocious looking son of Efisio who cost 12,500 guineas at the Tattersalls October Part 3 sale and at this stage he looks to be a bit of a bargain. He moves very well at exercise and has a fantastic temperament which should hold him in good stead for the future. All being well he should start in some faster work in the next six weeks or so and providing we get a clear run, he should be one of our earlier two year olds for this season. Hopefully we will still think that he is a bargain when he makes his racecourse debut!”

Yokozuna
Yokozuna is by Efisio, who was champion miler in Italy in 1986 and 1987. He won eight races from two to five years including the Group 1 Premio Turati in Milan and the Group 3 Challenge Stakes at Newmarket. He has been a significant sire of winners, among who include the dual Guineas winner, Attraction and Frizzante, who won the July Cup. Yokozuna’s dam, Celt Song was unraced but she has produced two winners including Princess Ellen, who won three races at home and in USA including the Listed Sweet Solera Stakes and was second in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes. She has produced one winner, Candelabro, who won in France and has been placed four times including second in a Listed race.
