16.11.06 - Ouija Board nearing Japan Cup date
ED DUNLOP has outlined that it is a case of ‘So far, so good’ regarding superstar mare Ouija Board’s participation in the Japan Cup on November 26.
The seven-time Group 1 winner is on course for a clash with top Japanese colts Deep Impact and Heart’s Cry – a mouth-watering prospect for not just racing fans but also sports enthusiasts.
She really has captured the imagination of people all over the world and her recent Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare triumph only cemented the affection in which she is held.
It was discovered after that stunning success that she had been struck into, placing a question-mark over her chances of competing in the mile-and-a-half contest in Japan.
But thanks to some excellent treatment in America, it proved no more than a minor problem and she has arrived in Japan in fine fettle.
Her trainer said: “Her left hind was struck into in the Filly & Mare and it blew up and became infected.
“But we received fantastic veterinary help there and it cleared up quickly. So there is no problem and she cantered at Churchill Downs for a couple of days before moving on to Belmont and cantering there.
“She arrived safe and sound in Japan on Sunday. She didn’t lose a huge amount of weight flying and is now in quarantine.
“Everything is fine and it is a case of so far, so good.”
