29.09.06 - Gainsborough string in top form
SEPTEMBER has been an excellent month for trainer Ed Dunlop’s string with ten victories - and counting - registered by September 28.
The older horses have kept marking their mark - notably Wagtail. She won a Listed event at Ascot to further enhance her paddock status.
Munaddam took a fairly valuable handicap at Folkestone and it looks like next stop Dubai for the son of Aljabr.
Island Odyssey has now won three after her recent Kempton triumph and High Command struck at Yarmouth for his second victory this season. Ebraam, Benandonner and Montpellier have all just broken their maidens.
Among the two-year-olds, King Charles has been a real star rattling up a swift hat-trick.
Broomielaw, second on his debut, seems like a winner waiting to happen, while Super Cross and Jeer have both made the frame and should progress.
Peter Shoemark, racing secretary to Ed Dunlop, said: “The end of August was a little bit frustrating as the horses were running steadily enough but coming second and third.
“Pleasingly, September has seen them making the winner’s circle with the older horses, in particular, running well.
“We always felt that the two-year-olds were a little backward this year but they are starting to run well now - especially King Charles.
“We are hopeful that more of the juveniles will be winning in the near future and we should end up with at least 50 winners before the end of the turf season, having won 46 races already.”
