01.08.06 - Course specialist heads back to his beloved Goodwood

COURT MASTERPIECE returns to the scene of some of his finest performances when on Wednesday he contests the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

The six-year-old has triumphed three times at the track, twice in Listed company and memorably in the Group 2 Betfair Cup (known as the Lennox Stakes) 12 months ago.

Since that fine win he has progressed into a genuine Group 1 performer, winning the Prix de la Foret last autumn, while only finding one too good for him in the Queen Anne Stakes at this year’s Royal Ascot meeting.

Trainer Ed Dunlop said: “Court Masterpiece seems well and loves Goodwood. On the form-book, he is arguably a 10lb better horse there. But there is a very good three-year-old colt in the field in Araafa and Soviet Song among others.”

Dunlop also runs Empress Olga on Wednesday with the full sister to Russian Rhythm aiming to build on her useful debut display at Lingfield on July 19.

She shaped with distinct promise on that occasion, going down by a length-and-a-half. Now she is ready for her second racetrack experience with the six-furlong Findon Maiden Stakes on her agenda.

Dunlop said: “She made a satisfactory debut and she will improve for that run.”
