Chester’s May meeting is a fixture we love and Zamjar was our sole representative on day two of the three day meeting. He headed into the race in fantastic form having run a blinder at Newbury when finishing fifth in the competitive Dubai Duty Free handicap run over 7f. We drew the plum draw of stall one with him and put the blinkers back on given he was dropping back to a sharp 6f.
Andrea Atzeni was very determined on our son of Exceed And Excel leaving the stalls and he made sure our colt held his position and was soon tracking the leaders. There was an honest gallop during the early exchanges but our colt travelled well once he found his stride and settled into a lovely rhythmn on the rail. As they turned for home Atzeni switched Zamjar off the rail and came for a run up the outside and our colt found plenty for pressure and got on top close home to win by a neck from the fast finishing Munro.
The drop back to six furlongs did not inconvenience Zamjar and a strongly run six furlongs is arguably what he needs but he is versatile and remains unexposed over seven furlongs. The handicapper cannot put him up too far given he has only won by two necks and the second looked a little unlucky. We will let him recover from this win and see if he can sneak into a valuable handicap in the coming weeks.
Congratulations to Zamjar’s owner Mr Abdullah Al Naboodah. We are delighted that your colt has won at the prestigious Chester May meeting and we hope he can give you more fun throughout the summer. Well done to everyone here at La Grange, it has been a tough couple of weeks with a lot of horses needing easier ground and we hope Zamjar’s win gives everyone a boost.
