Amazing Red
Yet another very cold morning here in Newmarket and we had showers overnight so the ground is likely to be on the easier side of good at the Rowley Mile. I continue to be happy with the horses and we should have one or two runners on the Sunday of the Guineas meeting.
Archimento finished third yesterday in the 2:00 Median Auction over one mile at Nottingham, I am going to give him a break now to allow him to strengthen up. He is a little bit weak still and the early morning rain hindered his chances of seeing out the trip. I still believe he will be a nice horse for us later on in the year. Timia ran ok when fourth at Brighton, she was slightly keen early and stayed ona little at the finish. Toffee Apple had a horrendous trip at Bath and was never in contention, she goes to the sales at the end of the week. Chestnut Storm was keen early and ended up losing her prominent position as her jockey tried to settle her, she then failed to handle the bend before running on well to finish seventh.
We have three runners today, Swiftee is a non runner at Brighton as the ground has dried up significantly there. Amazing Red runs in the 2:35 at Pontefract, he is a horse I like but he is by no means the finished article yet. I hope he can run well but there are some nice types in opposition and he is still learning. Dora’s Field and Cliff Face both run in the 5:45 at Wolverhampton. Dora’s Field would have a small chance on her Newmarket run but she is very much still learning about the game and hung slightly at Newmarket, Cliff Face showed some promise there but she is still weak and will improve with time.
There is some decent racing at Ascot today. Arod is running for the first time since his journey to Australia and it would be good to see him get back on track in the Listed race. The Sagaro Stakes looks like a competitive race and the whole field bar the outsider appear to have a claim, it will provide pointers for the staying races going forward. It was no surprise to see the fall in attendances for the first three months of the year being blamed on the inclement weather. Hail hit a lot of the racecourses yesterday and we are nearly entering May, we seem to be paying the price for an unseasonably warm December.
