Global Acclamation

Good morning from Newmarket. There is little doubt that we are experiencing a rather bad run of form, as evidenced by Dubai Frame going off favourite at Ayr yesterday, only to trail home virtually tailed off. He had been in great form previously, so it was a little disconcerting to see such a below-par run, although Amplification did better when finishing fourth in a competitive heat later on the card.

As such, we now turn to the next generation to try and pull us out of the mire, by running three two-year-olds today. It might be expecting too much to think we can win anything, but I am very much hoping we will see some green shoots of encouragement for the future.

Our first runner is Atwaar in the 1.30 at Nottingham, a five-furlong maiden. A daughter of Slade Power out of my May Hill Stakes third Musharakaat, she refused to load on her intended debut and then finished seventh at Lingfield, way back in June. She has been given time to strengthen since then, and we drop back to five furlongs today in the hope that it will prove more suitable. This is a tough race, but we hope to learn something. David Egan rides.

In the 2.10 at Salisbury, a mile novice, we unleash the debutant Global Express. A well-bred son of New Approach, he is out of the five-furlong winner All For Laura, and therefore a half-brother to the Gr.2 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner Misheer. However, he has needed a bit more time and we are starting off at a mile as he doesn’t appear to be forward enough or speedy enough to start off at shorter. A 175,000gns Book 1 purchase at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale last year, he is one of many newcomers in a tight-looking contest. Whether he is ready to be involved at the finish I don’t know, but hopefully he will enjoy his first racecourse experience and put in a good show.

Our final runner of the day is another Salisbury debutant, namely Global Acclamation, who goes in the seven-furlong novice at 3.15. This son of Acclamation is out of an unraced Elusive Quality mare who is herself out of the Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Denebola. He is ready to start off now, and will be our first runner in the colours of the Global Group Lifestyle and Sports Club, so we hope to get off to a good start for the members. His dam has already produced a winner in the US, and hopefully this lad will be able to maintain her 100% record. Whether that will be this afternoon I think is a little doubtful, as the form of the market principals looks decent and there are plenty of other interesting newcomers. That said, I hope to see an encouraging first outing. Gerald Mosse rides both of our Salisbury runners.

All the best,
Ed.
