Global Gift

Good afternoon from Newmarket. Today we find ourselves travelling all the way to Carlisle with just one runner, although the horse in question is Global Gift, who has been one of our star performers this year. He takes his chance in the 0-90 handicap at 4.30, run over just shy of a mile.

The son of Invincible Spirit was unraced at the turn of the year, but made rapid strides during May and June, winning three times in the space of a month. His first victory actually came over today’s course and distance, although on that occasion he was rated 75 whereas today he operates from a mark fully 15 pounds higher.

Since registering his third success of the year at Doncaster his progress has slowed, though at both Newmarket and Pontefract he encountered a surface that was probably faster than ideal. There should be no excuses on that front today, as Carlisle had six or seven millimetres overnight to leave the ground just on the easy side of good.

This is a really decent, competitive race, featuring lots of in-form handicappers, but the weight for age is in our favour and we know he handles the track. Add into the mix the fact he is reunited with Tom Eaves – who won on the horse at Carlisle previously – and there are reasons to be positive. All things considered I would like to think Global Gift has a solid each way chance, fingers crossed for a good showing.

All the best,
Ed.
