Magdalene Fox
A slightly drier day today here in Newmarket but it is still very damp and overcast. Mrs D and myself attended the Cartier awards on Tuesday night and it was a very enjoyable evening. All the winners were extremely worthy and Minding was a deserved winner of the horse of the year given how tough she has been throughout 2016. To win six Group 1s and be placed in two others in the same season is quite something and she won her first Group 1 of the year at the start of May before rounding off her campaign with arguably her best performance of the year in the QEII on Champions day.
Dutch Uncle ran well in the Middle Distance Final last night and a combination of a lack of a recent run and him running slightly free in the early stages meant he did not quite last home over the 1m3f trip. We will look for a suitable race for him over 1m2f in the coming weeks. Alligator was disappointing, his draw was a hindrance and he could not get into a rhythm in the early part of the race but I would have still liked to have seen more from him.
We run Magdalene Fox in the 7f Nursery at Chelmsford later on today. He is making his Nursery debut and he is wearing first time blinkers to try and help him concentrate. The draw is not ideal in ten and I hope he does not have to use up too much energy early on in the race. It is not a strong affair with only Auric Goldfinger boasting one solid piece of form but there are likely to be one or two that improve on what they have shown so far, I hope he can run respectably from his mark of 60.
