It is much brighter here at HQ after yesterday’s deluge. Over 30mm of rain fell and it feels like we have hardly had a summer. It is meant to dry out gradually although some parts of the country will get more rain next week.
We did not have much luck yesterday. Tadleel was not concentrating when the stalls opened at Brighton and was slowly away consequently. He finished his race well and can be considered an unlucky loser. Mudallel ran better over 7f at Kempton when a close up fourth and he shaped as though he is crying out for a mile now he has learnt to settle.
We have had to take two horses out today and so we are left with three runners. Wealth Tax looks to have our best chance in the last at Sandown. He won very easily in heavy ground at Nottingham last week and the ground this evening should be similarly testing which is ideal. He is an uncomplicated ride and given he is meant to carry 10:6 we have booked Finley Marsh to take seven off of his back. He has been well drawn in stall two and seems well at home, so I hope he can win again. A back to form Ravenhoe would pose a threat to us and High Draw has been in good form whilst Lyrica’s Lion is unexposed but is unproven on testing ground.
Fabulous Red runs in the 7:25 at Newcastle and it looks like a competitive Median Auction. She has run well on both starts and the track should suit her as she should be finishing strongly. Ingenuity’s win has been franked but he does have to give our filly twelve pounds and Character Witness ran well last time in a solid Newmarket Median Auction. Awesometank needs to improve on her debut but she has been well backed and plenty of improvement is clearly expected. True North is interesting on debut and it should prove to be an informative contest.
Weloof is our final runner in the 8:40 at Wolverhampton. We had to take him out at Brighton yesterday due to the fast ground and he did break his Maiden at the Midlands track which is a positive. He is drawn in stall nine which is not ideal and it looks a competitive contest with most of his rivals being in form. He has been gelded since he last ran and we hope that can make a difference today as he has to bounce back to form after two disappointing runs. Looking at his rivals Rebel Cause looked smart last year but returns from a layoff and High End could be anything given he has only had the one start. Almoreb and Cool Team both won last time and they have solid claims in what looks like a good handicap.
