Global Gift

Good morning from Newmarket! We threw a lot of darts at the board yesterday, and although a few horses disappointed, I was delighted to see Global Art get back to winning ways at Wolverhampton, whilst Jabalaly showed a lot of promise on his first start for a long time at Doncaster and will improve for the run.

Another one of our more promising three-year-olds is in action this afternoon, with Global Gift taking his chance in the 2.45 at Wetherby, a seven-furlong novice. He was keen on his debut at Chelmsford in March, but showed definite signs of ability when finishing fourth, before ruining his chance at Newmarket during the Craven meeting by running far too free.

We need him to curb such bad habits, which is why he will wear a hood for today’s race. A wide draw in stall 11 is far from ideal, but it probably dictates how P J McDonald will need to ride him, and hopefully we can drop in and find some cover. I hope doing this will teach the horse to race more kindly and efficiently and allow him to leave something for the finish. Mark Johnston’s King Shamardal, Mick Easterby’s Brandy Spirit and Clive Cox’s Eardley Road set a very stiff standard on form, so it will take a serious step forward from Global Gift to get in amongst them. However, he is a talented horse and I am hoping to see him get his career back on track this afternoon.

All the best, Ed.
