SNOW FAIRY, still recovering in Japan after her fabulous four lengths triumph in the G1 Queen Elizabeth 11 Commemorative Cup at Kyoto on Sunday, was crowned champion three-year-old filly at the prestigious Cartier Awards at a lavish reception at London's Dorchester Hotel on Tuesday night.
Ed and Becky Dunlop, who only arrived back in Newmarket the previous afternoon, joined 350 other guests for one of the most popular racing dinners of the year and Snow Fairy's award may not be the last celebration of the year, as connections are toying with the idea of having one last roll of the dice this season, a race at next month's Hong Kong International meeting at Sha Tin.
The boss said "Snow Fairy only lost three kilos during the race but she lost a bit more weight on the trip from Kyoto to Japan and though it was nothing dramatic, it makes sense to give the Japan Cup a miss and wait for Sha Tin on December 12, when she will go for either the Vase or the Cup. We will assess the likely opposition and decide, which race she runs in closer to the time but she will leave for Hong Kong next week."
"The Japanese were very hospitable and maybe we could have a look at the Japan Cup next year but Snow Fairy is a star and has now proved herself on the international stage and it was a huge honour getting the Cartier award."
