The Lacemaker

It is overcast here but it is still warm and muggy. There is only a little rain forecast for next week now and so the July meeting is likely to be run on fast ground. I am looking forward to seeing the three year olds go into battle with their elders today in The Eclipse. You would think that the three year olds will prevail but the great thing about our sport of racing is that you just never quite know until a race is run.

I was delighted Sparte Quercus won up at Doncaster yesterday and there might be a little more improvement to come from him when he encounters a softer surface. Muraadef showed up well and he showed promise when finishing fifth in the 6 1/2 f Novice. Titan struggled to land a blow in the 1m4f Maiden but he now qualifies for a handicap mark and we can lower our sights with him. Global Wealth ran ok in mid-division on what was a funny surface at Chelmsford whilst Wealth Tax was kept out wide from his double figure draw and he never landed a blow.

We run two horses  today at Leicester. Zamadance runs in the 1m4f handicap at 3:40 and the step up in trip on quick ground should suit him. He is well drawn in stall three but this race looks much deeper than the last one he contested. Prosecution ran into a lightly raced horse that looked talented at Windsor and he rates a threat to all. Uptown Funk is on a dangerous mark on handicap debut for John Gosden and Bolder Bob is consistent and unexposed. I hope he can run well.

The Lacemaker has a strong chance at Leicester if she can repeat a couple of pieces of her form. She was caught wide last time and that disappointing run can be discounted, she has run well fresh and so I hope she can get back on song today. Whilst it’s a Maiden restricted to horses rated 75 and below, all of her opponents have placed form. Peach Melba disappointed last time but she has ability and Wonder Of Dubai has seven pounds taken off his back but none of our rivals can be discounted.
